Coatings help protect fasteners against conditions such as corrosion and wear. Dry lubrication has a different role: it helps control friction during assembly. That distinction matters because friction affects how much of the applied tightening torque becomes clamping force. If friction varies, the resulting preload can vary too.
In the article, we explain why protection and predictable assembly performance should be considered together. We also share how the search for a solution to galling in stainless steel fasteners led to the development of Lubo’s dry lubrication technology.
